With more than 20 years of experience, Nitin Saksena, MTech, has become a respected leader in enterprise architecture. As senior director at Albertsons Cos., he plays a key role in shaping the company’s technology strategy and improving its customer service.
A Strong Educational Foundation in Technology
Saksena’s career began on a solid foundation in technology. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in computer science from the Institute of Technology and Management and a Master of Technology in information and communication technology from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology.
“My background in engineering and communication technology has been vital in helping me succeed in the technology field,” Saksena says.
Climbing the Ladder at Albertsons
Saksena joined Albertsons in 2019 as a principal architect for digital growth and customer loyalty. His leadership and hard work quickly earned him a promotion. Today, he is the senior director of engineering of omnichannel enterprise architecture. In this role, Saksena works closely with top executives to develop technology strategies that align with the company’s business goals.
“A well-thought-through architecture is the foundation of great products,” Saksena explains. “I aim to make a positive impact on customers’ lives through the systems I design.”
Saksena and his team of architects focus on creating an integrated omnichannel experience for customers. This includes work across Albertsons’ retail, pharmacy, and e-commerce platforms. His efforts have been instrumental in the company’s success in a highly competitive retail market.
Key Achievements: Shaping Customer Experience
One of Saksena’s proudest accomplishments is designing the Promotion Engine at Albertsons. Launched in 2020, this promotion engine helped Albertsons customers get discounts and promotions on their groceries seamlessly in-store as well as online. “The Promotion Engine was an outstanding achievement and a pioneering innovation,” he recalls. “It was fulfilling to see how our work impacted the everyday life of so many households.”
Saksena also helped develop a scheduler for COVID-19 vaccination appointments at Albertsons, allowing customers to easily book vaccination appointments through the company’s pharmacies. He has also led the architecture of the newly built Sincerely Health Digital Health and Wellness Platform, which offers personalized health and pharmacy services, enabling customers to achieve their health and wellness goals and lead a healthier lifestyle.
Saksena also served as an architect for the Star Rewards program at Macy’s. Launched in 2018, this loyalty program helped Macy’s retain and attract customers by offering tailored discounts and promotions. “The Star Rewards Program was a significant accomplishment in my career,” he recalls.
The work Saksena has done has not gone without recognition. He has spoken at major industry conferences like the Kafka conference and Databricks conference, where he shares his expertise on enterprise architecture. His leadership has earned him multiple awards, including the Macy’s Make Magic annual award and the North Star award.
Looking Forward: A Vision for Continued Innovation
Saksena plans to continue his career progression, aiming to become a chief information officer or chief technology officer. “I want to ensure that my work continues to have a lasting effect, improving technology in ways that benefit the everyday consumer,” Saksena says. He is committed to learning and staying on top of new trends in the industry.
As he looks to the future, Saksena’s dedication to excellence and innovation will continue to shape the technology landscape, positively impacting businesses and the lives of their customers.
