John Hoff is an expert in the field of construction oversight, with more than 12 years in the industry and eight years of specialization in land development. For this reason, Marquis Who’s Who has honored him with inclusion in its biographical volumes. Currently, Hoff serves as the director of land development at Tri Pointe Homes in Charleston, South Carolina.

Hoff’s Educational Background

Before launching a career in construction oversight and land development, Hoff pursued formal education. In 2011, he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. More recently, in 2023, he completed the Lennar Mid-Level Leader Intermediate Program and the Lennar Foundational Mid-Level Leader Program through Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning.

A Career in Development

Hoff began his career as a developer when he joined HJB Construction as an assistant project manager in 2013. In 2015, he was appointed project manager and oversaw commercial construction projects, gaining valuable insight into the home-building industry.

In 2017, Hoff joined Lennar as a land development manager. He managed the company’s projects in Charleston until 2022, when he decided to transfer to Lennar’s Hilton Head division. In this role, he oversaw several construction projects and contributed to the company’s continued growth.

During this time, Hoff oversaw the development of the Stonoview community in the city of Charleston. He and his team designed and built the community’s layout and its amenity center, an endeavor he considers to be one of his proudest career accomplishments to date.

In 2024, Hoff left Lennar to join Tri Pointe Homes as director of land development. In this role, he oversees the development of properties to match community standards, handles permits, and collaborates with engineers, architects, and geotechnical engineers to establish zoning and community designs. Leveraging years of experience, he ensures that projects run smoothly and adhere to community goals.

Community and Civic Involvement

Outside of his professional career, Hoff maintains membership in the Charleston Home Builders Association, an organization that promotes homeownership and represents builders in the greater Charleston area. He is also an active participant in Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, reflecting his commitment to community service.

For all his success, Hoff is quick to remind himself and others that it is important to learn from one’s mistakes. As he says, “Don’t waste the tuition.” He considers every mistake and every success an opportunity to learn a new lesson and attributes many of his achievements to his ability to adapt and learn. This attitude enables him to keep projects on track despite setbacks and set his sights on improving communities.

Plans for the Future

Moving forward, Hoff aims to further Tri Pointe Homes’ mission to create a premium lifestyle in the coastal Carolina market. In doing so, he hopes to build communities that people are excited to live in. To make this possible, he aspires to a position as vice president of land within Tri Pointe Homes.
