The field of web development and user design includes many gifted professionals. While Asad Khan has distinguished himself through his prolific career and portfolio of projects, he has elected to leverage his success to mentor and uplift new entrants to his industry.

Khan’s work as a front-end developer has earned him honors such as inclusion in the Marquis Who’s Who listing of noteworthy individuals. Today, he continues his efforts to mentor the next generation of web developers and offers his expertise through his company, The Lion Cub.

Foundational Knowledge and Passion for Web Development

Khan completed two bachelor’s degrees at Oakland University, a public Michigan-based university. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Russian language and civilization in 1998, followed by a Bachelor of Science in management information systems in 1999. Building upon his knowledge, he earned a Master of Science degree in information systems with a concentration in Oracle database technology from Lawrence Technical University, a private university in Southfield, Michigan, in 2003.

At the time Khan was completing his degree in management information systems, a relatively new discipline, he was uncertain as to what profession he should enter following graduation. Then, his attention was captured by a web design class. This course proved transformative for him, as it was taught by a talented professor who inspired him and made him realize his passion for designing web pages.

A Dynamic Career in Multiple Industries

Khan’s initial career journey would expose him to the automotive industry. In 1999, he acquired his first job as a desk analyst contracted through Bartech to Ford Motor Company. He proceeded to work on various projects for both Ford Motor Company and Visteon Corporation.

In 2004, Khan began his career in front-end user interface (UI) development when he took a position as a web specialist and writer for TEKsystems Inc. Following this, he made his next major career decision in 2005, moving to Maryland to become a contractor with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a technical writer. His experiences in this field provided him with valuable insights into the web development space.

Khan continued developing his expertise and managerial skills when he took on a role as a manager of web content support services for ManpowerGroup in 2006. In the following years, he served in various roles as a front-end web developer and UI specialist for a diverse range of companies and government contractors, including Aeolus Systems, PRISM Inc., Hewlett-Packard, Verizon Wireless, Pfizer, and others.

In 2024, Khan took his career path in a new direction as the front-end developer and owner of The Lion Cub. This entrepreneurial venture serves as a purveyor of web development services and furthers his mission to share his expertise with students and newcomers in the web development industry.

Insights Into Web Development Success

Khan credits much of his career success to the valuable mentorship he has received and his ability to persist through difficult times. “I’ve had ups and downs, and being able to persevere through tough times is one of the most important things in my career.”

Khan additionally emphasizes the importance of remaining current with existing technologies and exploring new ones. During the more challenging times of his career, he managed to expand his knowledge and expertise through online courses.

Future Industry and Career Developments

For the future of web design, Khan believes that artificial intelligence will transform the industry. However, he believes that the human element will remain important. “They’re still going to need human beings to interact with it and develop things for it,” he states. “It may end one type of industry but will create more jobs in other ways.”

In the next five years, Khan plans to continue growing The Lion Cub, as well as taking on more professional and personal writing projects. He is eager to expand his professional skills as he takes on the new experience of building and running his own company. He plans to continue mentoring young professionals within the web development spaces. As he reaches new career milestones and shares his growing expertise, Khan is certain to help others reach similar success to what he has enjoyed.
