Artistic expression is not a skill easily possessed by all. However, Meng C. Loh, BSA, has spent 39 years cementing her dedication to excellence in the advertising and design sectors of the industry. She continues to inspire others with her contributions and accomplishments, including worthy recognition from Marquis Who’s Who for her tenure in entrepreneurship across all her creative encounters.
Art Director
Loh has spent nearly four decades in her field, showcasing her excellence and expertise in advertising, marketing, and product design. She commenced her professional journey in 1988 when she studied at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. By 1992, she graduated with honors and a dean’s list recognition, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in communication arts.
Immediately following her studies at Otis College, Loh worked as an art director for the Pacific Electricord Company until 2002. Shortly after, she took on her second administrative position as the creative director at Prime Wire & Cable Inc. Loh held this directorial title until 2018, when she became the art director at Gehr Industries. Alongside her formal career endeavors, she has additionally invested in her own artistic business, Meng Loh Design, which she proudly runs to this day.
Artistic Insights and Expertise
Loh boasts decades of experience across multiple areas of expertise. Her extensive skill set includes advertising, art, copywriting, photography, photoshop, product design, and marketing. The expert artist is also a highly skilled illustrator who extends her specialties into charcoal and watercolor artistry.
As Loh fine-tunes her craft in the field, she notices the changing trends and novel developments in recent years. She notes that the business transforms “based on how design and technology have changed.” She explains that artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging software have become more prominent within the industry.
Subsequently, Loh has been working to incorporate AI into some of her designs. “A lot of people worry that AI is going to take away their jobs,” but the art director’s feelings on the matter differ from the masses. She believes AI empowers jobs to develop improved experiences regarding time, human interactions, and ideation modifications. Loh believes AI can offer flexibility and support, ultimately saving time and money.
Valuable Lessons
While working at Gehr Industries, Loh independently carries out her daily responsibilities. No artists contribute directly under her supervision. Conversely, her time at Pacific Electricord enabled her to advise and guide others, swiftly going from graphic designer to art director in just four years.
Loh’s people skills were a deciding factor in her early successes. She recognized that maintaining honesty while learning and growing from her experiences and mistakes eventually outlined her industry accomplishments.
From Challenge to Triumph
Loh originally entered the U.S. as an immigrant, positioning herself with unique challenges in an industry that places its priorities elsewhere. Despite the obstacles, she pushed herself to reach her goals, hoping to inspire others on a similar path. Regardless of her upbringing, she chose to succeed in the U.S. rather than let the chips fall where they may if she’d chosen to remain in her home country.
Loh wants her experiences to empower those who didn’t receive the encouragement they needed from their family members, a predicament she understands all too well.
Future Visions in Artistic Advertising
Moving forward, Loh hopes to inspire people who feel they’ve lost hope in their endeavors. She wants to encourage artists worldwide to “persevere through adversity and not give up.”
Loh says, “Anyone can be successful if they’re strong and willing enough to try.” She hopes her story can empower others to pursue a similar path.
