Screen protectors have long been an afterthought in smartphone ownership, a functional layer that’s more about prevention than performance. But TORRAS, a brand known for its focus on design-oriented accessories, is attempting to make the humble screen protector a bit smarter.

The company’s new OrigArmor Screen Protector, launching July 25 for $34.99, is designed for iPhone users and introduces a mix of modest but genuinely useful refinements. The headline feature is its anti-reflective coating, which aims to cut glare and improve outdoor visibility without adding noticeable texture or dulling the screen’s color.

Reducing Glare, Enhancing Clarity

Reflections have always been one of the trade-offs of having a glass display. Whether it’s the midday sun or a bright office light, screens can easily become mirrors. The Ceramic Shield 2 introduced with the iPhone 17 features anti-reflective capabilities, but standard screen protectors disable this function. OrigArmor not only preserves it—it enhances the original display’s AR performance.TORRAS’s anti-reflective layer is meant to mitigate that problem.

OrigArmor achieves its breakthrough anti-reflective performance through magnetron sputtering—currently the most advanced manufacturing process in screen protector technology. This sophisticated method creates a 7-layer anti-reflective coating through a dual ion-exchange process, helping the protector achieve less than 0.8%. The company says the OrigArmor achieves less than 0.8% reflectivity, compared to more than 4.5% for standard tempered glass protectors, while maintaining 95% light transmittance. In practice, that means users should be able to see content more clearly outdoors or under strong indoor lighting without increasing screen brightness.

While these numbers won’t dramatically change how a phone looks indoors, they could make a noticeable difference for anyone who frequently uses their device outside. The improved visibility may also help conserve battery life by reducing the need for higher brightness levels.

Importantly, the coating is designed not to distort or soften color. Unlike matte or frosted finishes, the OrigArmor enhances the iPhone’s native sharpness and vibrancy while providing these advantages.

Designed to Fit the iPhone Display

The iPhone has introduced subtle curvature to the screen edges since the iPhone 15 series. The series introduces subtle curvature to the screen edges, something that has challenged accessory makers to maintain full coverage without affecting usability. TORRAS addresses that with a 3D curved edge design, which extends protection right to the perimeter of the display.

That curved edge serves a few practical purposes: it prevents dust from collecting along the sides, reduces the likelihood of the glass chipping on impact, and avoids the thin black border effect common with traditional protectors that don’t align precisely with the screen’s shape.

TORRAS also highlights that the OrigArmor’s thickness and smoothness have been tuned to retain the iPhone’s “native touch feel.” In other words, it should still feel like glass, not an extra layer over it.

Protection Without Bulk

The OrigArmor isn’t just about appearance. TORRAS has reinforced the edges and used a multi-layer glass structure to deliver military-grade protection against drops and scratches, and achieved a 9H+ hardness rating. It’s a familiar claim, with many protectors promising impact resistance, but in this case, the focus seems to be on all-around coverage rather than just hardness.

The curved design ensures 360° protection, meaning that both the flat surface and the vulnerable edges get equal attention. TORRAS says this makes it suitable for use with or without a case, since the rounded finish avoids the uncomfortable lip that sometimes occurs when two accessories overlap.

Simpler Installation, Fewer Mistakes

Applying a screen protector has historically been one of the more frustrating parts of phone ownership. TORRAS is trying to make it simpler with a roller tray system, an installation tool included in the box.

The tray holds the screen protector in alignment, while a 35° silicone roller pushes out air bubbles as the film adheres. There’s also a fluorine release film—a thin sheet that collects dust during application to prevent tiny particles from getting trapped underneath.

It’s a small improvement, but it makes the process more reliable and helps preserve the anti-fingerprint coating that typically degrades over time with repeated attempts at installation.

A Measured Step Forward

There’s no shortage of glass protectors for the iPhone, and most of them make similar promises: clearer, tougher, easier to apply. The OrigArmor refines the category. By pairing full-screen coverage with a genuinely effective anti-reflective layer, it offers practical improvements that everyday users are likely to notice.

In a market crowded with near-identical accessories, those small, well-considered changes can make the difference between a screen protector you tolerate and one you actually appreciate.
