Gigantic’s Candy Deluxe Is Taking a Smaller, More Deliberate Approach to Candy

Candy has largely split into two directions. On one side, mass-market bars lean heavily on sweetness and cost efficiency, which often means blunt flavors that grow old quickly. On the other, “better-for-you” alternatives reduce sugar but often lose the point of eating candy in the process. The middle ground, where flavor still matters and the experience feels intentional, has been mostly overlooked.

Gigantic was built to bridge that gap. The company makes Candy Deluxe, a line of smaller-format candy bars designed with a more restrained approach to sweetness and a clearer focus on ingredient quality. Italian dark chocolate and brown sugar caramel form the base, with the goal of delivering a more balanced flavor profile rather than pushing sugar to the forefront.

The structure of The Variety Pack is a perfect example of that thinking. It includes four cartons, one for each of their regular flavor, with five Mini Deluxe bars per carton. Each bar is intentionally compact, closer in size to a single stick from a Kit Kat than a full bar. The smaller format changes how the product is used. Instead of a single, heavier serving, the bars are designed for shorter, more controlled moments throughout the day. It scratches the itch without reaching overindulgence.

That approach extends to the formulation. Candy Deluxe uses real organic sugar but in reduced amounts, landing at roughly half the sugar of a traditional candy bar ounce for ounce. The difference shows up less in the numbers and more in how the flavors come through. The chocolate reads deeper, the caramel carries more complexity, and the overall profile avoids the overly sweet finish that defines much of the category.

The brand does not attempt to present itself as a health product, nor does it rely on sugar substitutes or functional ingredients to make its case. Instead, it focuses on delivering a version of candy that prioritizes taste without overcorrection. The result sits between the two dominant approaches in the market, not as sweet as traditional bars, but not as stripped-down as many alternatives.

Gigantic was founded by Stu Davidoff, who identified what he saw as a lack of compelling options for people who still wanted candy but expected more from it. That perspective carries through the product and the brand itself. The packaging draws from a New York aesthetic, with graffiti-influenced design and a more understated, pocketable format that aligns with how the bars are intended to be used.

As a smaller company, Gigantic is not competing on scale or price in the way legacy brands do. The focus remains on the product itself. The Variety Pack serves as a straightforward introduction to that approach, offering a way to engage with the full range without committing to a single flavor or format.

Candy Deluxe does not attempt to redefine the category. It simply adjusts a few key variables and builds consistently around them. In a space that has seen relatively little practical change, that level of focus is enough to stand out.
