Christopher Kelly is a military historian with more than 40 years of experience in media management and history. His contributions have been recognized by induction into the Marquis Who’s Who biographical registry. Currently a self-employed author and owner of History Invasions, Kelly dedicates his time to raising awareness of history and engaging in discussions about current events.
Discovering a Guiding Philosophy
Before beginning his career, Kelly pursued his education. In 1981, he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley. The philosophical guidance he found during this time continues to guide his work today. He attributes his success to the phrase “Amor Fati,” loosely translating to “love fate.” Living by this command, he continues to find his way forward.
Building Kelly Television Company
Before becoming an author, Kelly joined the television business when he founded the Kelly Television Co., based in Seattle and Sacramento. Focused on making history entertaining, he launched the company in 1981 and sold his interest in 1997 after some success.
Although no longer with the company, Kelly successfully built a flourishing television business. He gained significant experience in marketing, advertising, and communication, and today he considers it to have been an education in business. As such, he acknowledges the Kelly Television Co. as his most notable achievement.
Launching a Career as an Author
Several years after leaving his television company, Kelly began his literary career with a blog in 2011, which he continued until 2023. Through his co-authorship of “American Conservative in London,” he began voicing his outlook on history and current events. A few years later, he co-wrote “America Invades: The Controversial Story of How We’ve Invaded or Been Militarily Involved with Almost Every Country on Earth.”
With this book, Kelly simultaneously founded History Invasions, focusing his efforts on the documentation and research of military history. In 2015, he co-wrote “Italy Invades,” and in 2016, he served as an editor for “An Adventure in 1914: The True Story of an American Family’s Journey on the Brink of WWI.” Most recently, in 2017, he co-authored “America Invaded: A State by State Guide to Fighting on American Soil.” Notably, he won awards for the cover design of both “Italy Invades” and “America Invades.”
In a similar vein to his authorial career, Kelly enjoys interviewing veterans, traveling, and blogging about current events. These passions contribute to his work at History Invasions, forming the foundation of his research and writing in many cases.
Plans for Future Releases and History Invasions
Kelly has found his passion in writing for History Invasions and has already written a fifth book, entitled “101 Fighting Celts from Boudica to MacArthur,” which is not yet published. He plans to release this by the end of the year, along with at least one other book in the next few years. He is now working on a historic novel set during World War 2. Kelly would love to release a military cookbook one day and hopes to turn “An Adventure in 1914” into a feature film.
