Leaders of today were once ordinary individuals who carry grand ambitions—aspirations that could one day change the future and leave a lasting impact in society that would reverberate in the coming generations, and one of them is Doron Merdinger. Doron is more than just a dreamer; he is a visionary who believes and wields the power of technology in crafting a legacy in the aerospace sector. But while he is a force to be reckoned with in today’s digital age, the Israel-born was a full-time entrepreneur first before setting his sights on a larger role—one that would involve tinkering with mechanical devices and integrating new and emerging technologies into his craft.

Now 58, Doron began his career as a Marketing Director and CEO of Hazorfirm, a venture centered on silver Judaica and luxury gift items that he took over from his father. While his 12-year journey as an executive of a silversmithing firm was nowhere near his role in the aerospace industry, it served as a stepping stone for him to get into aerospace.

As Hazorfirm’s executive, Doron did more than just oversee the company’s operations and its people but leveraged his position to build networks that led to the successful creation of the world’s first fully integrated tableware collection that used 3D files and laser cutting technology. But while this feat is something worth celebrating, Doron knew that his passion lies somewhere else; it is in shaping the aerospace sector by developing a future-ready device with actual use case.

The Case for Flying Cars

In the film Back to the Future Part II, a key element of the depiction of the “future” is flying cars. While the movie depicted it to happen in 2015, it was not until a year later that someone turned that vision—once thought to be implausible—into reality.

Doron established his own venture, Doroni Aerospace, in 2016 in Pompano Beach, South Florida, kickstarting an initiative set to massively transform not just the aerospace sector but transportation as well.
While air mobility is gaining more attention worldwide, with numerous startups and large enterprises now dabbling in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL), it is incredibly challenging to stand out. In the tech field, it would take more than just utilizing the most advanced technology to create a significant impact, and Doron knew this.

Doroni Aerospace’s first eVTOL, the H1, is a garage project that was built by Doron and his team with sustainability at the top of their minds. Built with carbon fiber composite for its fuselage and wings, this two-seater aircraft stands as a testament to Doron’s environmental stewardship and dedication to creating a more resilient and equitable future for the aerospace industry.
This state-of-the-art innovation also gives new meaning to safety in air mobility, featuring a distributed electric propulsion (DEP) system to ensure safe landing, anti-collision sensors, a self-stabilizing flight control system, and an autonomous navigation system. Above all else, Doroni Aerospace has earned the Special Airworthiness Certification from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its H1 eVTOL, granting the company a license to operate it in flight.

The Spark of Innovation

While sustainability is at the heart of this project, Doron’s drive to provide solutions and empower consumers also played a critical role in the development of H1 eVTOL.
Doron approached the utilization of the technology at his disposal with great diligence, with the intention of ensuring that his innovation would significantly benefit society rather than merely serve as a status symbol, akin to private aircraft and helicopters.

For Doron, the utilization of advanced technologies constitutes a crucial element of innovation; however, it is not the sole component. Genuine innovation entails fostering positive change by implementing technologies in manners that generate value and address the unmet needs of society.

Doron’s “flying car” is a concept built on his passion to embrace new ideas and create solutions that champion not only sustainability but inclusivity as well. The H1 eVTOL serves as a stepping stone for Doron to develop devices and services that have the potential to revolutionize the industry and improve lives. Given the rapid pace of technological advancements, it is only a matter of time before Doron and his Doroni Aerospace create another groundbreaking innovation that will bring about radical change.
