For Maggie Davis, MS, understanding of the importance of nutrition began at a young age. As the oldest of eight children, she was responsible for making the family dinner when she was in high school.
Davis, a distinguished nutrition consultant, has dedicated over five decades to nutrition and dietetics. She was associated with Rock Harbor Health, where she served as a nutrition specialist from 2019 to 2022. Davis has also owned Live Nutrition Inc. since 1980, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to advancing nutritional health and wellness. During her work with Live Nutrition Inc., she served as the company’s director from 1980 to 2022.
Davis’ expertise spans multiple areas, including weight management, nutrition therapy for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), high cholesterol, eating disorders, emotional eating, and diabetes education and treatment. One of her notable achievements was the development of frozen treat children’s vitamins, which reflects her innovative approach to nutrition.
Davis’ academic background included a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition from Framingham State University in 1973 and a master’s degree in nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in 1975. She also completed postgraduate coursework in neonatal nutrition at Iowa State University.
Furthermore, Davis’ certifications include being a licensed dietitian nutritionist in Massachusetts, a registered dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and a certified specialist in adult and pediatric nutrition.
Early in her career, Davis was recognized for her hard work as the Young Dietitian of the Year in 1977. Her passion for teaching and nutrition and natural academic curiosity have been instrumental in her success. Initially captivated by chemistry, Davis found her true calling in nutrition due to its practical applications for everyone.
Active in her professional community, Davis is a fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She has served as the president of the Massachusetts Consultant Dietitians in Healthcare Communities. Previously, she served as a vice president of the Massachusetts Dietetic Association in 1979. As an active civic member, Davis was the president of the Cape Cod Dietetic Association and the vice president of the nutrition division at Red Lock Labs.
Davis is also an accomplished writer. She co-authored “Your Whole Life: The 3D Plan for Eating Right, Living Well and Loving God” via Paraclete Press in 2009 and “Good Food for Life: Planning, Preparing and Sharing” via Paraclete Press in 2010.
Davis is working on a new book, “Diet for a Broken Heart,” and plans to write two more books and magazine articles to reach a broader audience.
Additionally, Davis is developing medically tailored menus for a client company to create food boxes that insurance companies can deliver to patients’ homes after discharge. Davis hopes to bring valuable dietary information and systems into the homes of the struggling and those who care for them, saying, “People say to you, ‘Oh, your husband is sick. I hope you’re taking care of yourself.’ But nobody ever says what that should look like. And it needs to be positive and practical. That’s where I see myself going and sharing that expertise.”
